Helperman

Helperman began his Sunday morning at the Puente Arzobispo bridge in Santiago, where he met up with fellow Santiaguinos to participate in the run to support and raise money for breast cancer patients.

In its fourth consecutive year, the run - organized by the Yo Mujer corporation - managed to raise 30 million pesos thanks to donations from the 2,500 participants who were there along with Helperman to support the cause.

After 45 minutes of jogging, Helperman reached the finish line hand in hand with other participants who he’d helped to encourage throughout the 10 kilometer run.

Helperman llegó el domingo a las 11 de la mañana hasta el Puente Arzobispo para participar de la corrida solidaria que apoya a pacientes con cáncer de mama.

En su cuarto año consecutivo, la corrida organizada por la corporación Yo Mujer logró reunir unos 30 millones de pesos en aporte voluntario de unas 2.500 personas que llegaron, al igual que Helperman, a apoyar la causa.

Luego de 10 kilómetros y unos 45 minutos de intenso trote, Helperman llegó a la meta de la mano con otros participantes a quienes dio ánimo para seguir en carrera.

Our superhero showed up at the Design school of Duoc UC’s Plaza Vespucio campus this past Wednesday to help the first year Graphic Design students with an assignment. His mission: be the class’ model. He spent about 40 minutes posing for 30 or so students who gratefully sketched his portrait.

Nuestro superhéroe llegó el miércoles recién pasado hasta la escuela de Diseño del Duoc UC de la sede Plaza Vespucio para ayudar a los alumnos de primer año de Diseño Gráfico. Su misión fue ser el modelo de la clase y estuvo cerca de 40 minutos posando para unos 30 alumnos, que agradecidos lo retrataron.

Helperman wanted to support this cause run by the Peñalolén Municipality, which seeks to put an end to the lack of beds for children in the community. As such, he arrived at the door of the municipality to participate in Camatón 2008.

“One child, one bed” is the name of the campaign which has as its objective the procurement of beds for children of scarce resources from the community of Peñalolén in Santiago and has been supported by the municipality since December 2006. The Camatón took place in order to collect funds for the campaign, which as of Saturday had donated over 400 beds.

During an emotional afternoon, thanks to the support of thousands of people, the Camatón managed to raise funds for 350 beds, which together with the original 400 allowed them to exceed their goal of 600 beds, providing an additional 150 children with their own beds.

Helperman quiso sumarse a esta cruzada solidaria impulsada por la Municipalidad de Peñalolén que busca terminar con la falta de camas para los niños de la comuna, y llegó el domingo 31 hasta el frontis del municipio para participar de la Camatón 2008.

“Un niño, una cama” es el nombre de la campaña solidaria tiene por objetivo conseguir camas para los niños de escasos recursos de Peñalolén y ha sido promovida por la municipalidad desde diciembre de 2006. La Camatón se lleva a cabo para recaudar los fondos que van directamente en beneficio de la campaña, que hasta el sábado había entregado unas 400 camas.

En una emotiva tarde, y gracias al aporte solidario de miles de personas, la Camatón logró recaudar fondos equivalentes a unas 350 camas, lo que sumado a las 400 ya entregadas permitió superar con creces la meta esperada de 600 camas.

Helperman arrived at the Peñalolén Municipality August 29th and 30th to attend the inauguration of the Digital Expo of Peñalolén 2008 and collaborate in the workshop that Needish held on Saturday.

This activity seeks to connect the local community and to teach community members about the benefits of the use of information technology and its role in improving the quality of life. Various important technological companies were there, showing off their latest products, and several conferences and workshops took place throughout the weekend…Helperman was there to support the initiative and participate in the workshop put on by Needish, where he guided the participants.

Hasta el frontis de la Municipalidad de Peñalolén llegó Helperman el 29 y 30 de agosto para asistir a la inauguración de la Feria Digital de Peñalolén 2008 y colaborar en el taller de Needish realizado el sábado.

Con la presencia de importantes empresas tecnológicas mostrando sus últimas novedades, conferencias y talleres, comenzó esta iniciativa que busca lograr que la comunidad local se conecte y aprenda sobre los beneficios del uso de las tecnologías de la información y su influencia en el mejoramiento de la calidad de vida…Helperman estuvo ahí para apoyar la iniciativa y participar en el taller realizado por Needish, donde guió a los asistentes.

Helperman traveled all the way to Puerto Varas in the south of Chile on August 13th to attend the third Salmon Valei, a conference focused on entrepreneurship and innovation in the acuiculture cluster of the 10th Region, which took place at Hotel Meliá.

Our superhero’s mission this time was to help the conference attendees to get to know each other and establish contacts as well as collaborating on the workshop “Innovation by everyone, everywhere, all the time” which took place in the Hotel Cabañas del Lago.

Hasta Puerto Varas llegó Helperman el pasado 13 de agosto para asistir a la tercera versión del Salmon Valei, encuentro de emprendimiento e innovación para el clúster acuícola de la X Región que se llevó a cabo en el Hotel Meliá.

La misión de nuestro superhéroe esta vez fue ayudar a que los asistentes al encuentro conversaran y establecieran contactos, así como también colaborar con el taller “innovación de parte de todos, en todas partes, todo el rato” realizado en el hotel Cabañas del Lago.

José Luis Demarco was diagnosed with cancer when he was 8 years old. Today he is 9 and travels to Santiago every week for treatment. A few weeks ago, he met Helperman and shared his biggest dream: to meet “Chespirito,” renowned Mexican actor Roberto Gómez Bolaños.

José Luis Demarco lives with his family in Talca, almost 200 miles south of Santiago. Last year he was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma and now has multiple metastases. It is for this reason that he travels to Santiago every week to continue his treatment at Calvo Mackenna Hospital, and it was during one of these visits that he met Helperman.

When our superhero visited Talca three weeks ago, he saw José Luis again. This time, José Luis confessed that his dream was to met Chespirito. Days later, Roberto Gómez Bolaños landed in Chile to present his successful show “11 y 12″, which represents his international farewell tour as he retires from the limelight.

Helperman surmounted perhaps his biggest challenge yet, and brought together both the Mexican actor and his wife actress Florinda Mesa shared a moment with José Luis in the Teletón Theater last weekend.

José Luis traveled from Talca together with his parents, who watched their young son’s dream come true backstage at the theater.

A José Luis Demarco le diagnosticaron cáncer cuando tenía 8 años. Hoy tiene 9 y debe viajar cada semana a Santiago para realizar su tratamiento. Hace unas semanas conoció a Helperman y le contó cuál era su gran sueño: conocer a Chespirito.

José Luis Demarco vive junto a su familia a unos 300 kilómetros al sur de Santiago, específicamente en la ciudad de Talca. El año pasado le diagnosticaron Rabdomiosarcoma y hoy tiene metástasis múltiple. Es por eso que viaja cada semana a Santiago para seguir su tratamiento en el hospital Calvo Mackenna. Fue precisamente en uno de esos viajes cuando conoció a Helperman mientras éste ayudaba en las calles de Santiago.

Cuando nuestro superhéroe visitó Talca hace 3 semanas volvió a ver a José Luis, quien en esa ocasión le confesó a Helperman que su sueño era “conocer a Chespirito”. Días después, Roberto Gómez Bolaños aterrizaba en nuestro país para presentar su exitosa obra “11 y 12” en el marco de su gira para despedirse de los escenarios.

Helperman logró que el actor mexicano y su esposa Florinda Mesa compartieran un momento junto a José Luis y lo llevó hasta el Teatro Teletón el fin de semana pasado.

José Luis viajó desde Talca junto a sus padres, quienes se convirtieron en testigos de la concreción del sueño de su pequeño hijo en el backstage del teatro.

Invited by La Bicicleta Verde, Helperman accompanied hundreds of cyclists who - just as on the first Tuesday of every month - yesterday took to the streets of Santiago with the objective of promoting bicycles as a means of transport.

At 8pm the cyclists began to arrive in Plaza Italia. The route began there and passed through the streets San Francisco, Avenida Matta and Vicuña Mackenna, among others.

Helperman accompanied them on his bike and, thanks to the help and excellent work of dozens of policemen who took charge of protecting the participants and stopping transit to clear the route, there were no problems during the event.

Invitado por La Bicicleta Verde, Helperman acompañó a cientos de ciclistas que como primer martes de cada mes, ayer se tomaron las calles de Santiago con el objetivo de promover el uso de la bicicleta como medio de transporte.

A las 20 horas los ciclistas comenzaron a llegar a Plaza Italia, lugar que fue el punto de partida para la ruta que pasó por las calles San Francisco, Avenida Matta y Vicuña Mackenna, entre otras.

Helperman los acompañó en su bicicleta y gracias a su ayuda y a la excelente labor de decenas de carabineros que se encargaron de proteger a los participantes y detener el tránsito para despejar la ruta, el recorrido no tuvo ningún inconveniente.

In anticipation of the Day of the Street Dog on Sunday, last week Helperman visited the streets and animal protection societies of Santiago. He met with dozens of dogs that had been abandoned and left to starve.

During their special day, Helperman took charge of giving them food, company and affection.

Anticipándose al día del perro callejero el domingo, la semana pasada Helperman recorrió las calles y sociedades protectoras de animales en Santiago. Se encontró con decenas de perros abandonados y sin qué comer.

En su día, Helperman se encargó de darles algo de cariño, alimento y compañía.

From la Alameda to the gardens of the University of Santiago in Santiago, Chile, Helperman marches alongside the students of Pedagogy. These students and supporters rallied in discontent of Chile’s current educational system.

In this video, Helperman can be seen lending hand to the students amid drums, chants and whistles:

Por la Alameda y hasta los jardines de la Universidad de Santiago, acompañó Helperman a los estudiantes de Pedagogía de dicha casa de estudios. El motivo de la manifestación es el descontento frente al sistema actual de educación. Entre tambores, silbatos y cantos, Helperman se hizo presente para apoyarlos con su manifestación.

On an especially polluted day in the Chilean capital, Helperman wanted to do something for the health of the Santiaguinos and took to the streets to hand out masks in order to reduce the impact of smog on passers-by. Helperman reached the areas of Providencia and central Santiago with the masks, provoking a truly grateful reaction from people in the street.

En días de alta contaminación ambiental en la capital chilena, Helperman quiso hacer algo por la salud de los santiaguinos y salió a las calles a repartir mascarillas para reducir el impacto del smog en los transeúntes. Hasta Providencia y Santiago Centro llegó Helperman con las mascarillas, provocando una reacción de profundo agradecimiento por parte de la gente.

With an average of 50 hugs an hour, Helperman celebrated Hug Day yesterday, Monday June 30th in the streets of Santiago.

He started in the Providencia area and walked for several hours, greeting everyone he met along the way with hugs. But it wasn’t only in the streets; he also hugged people in stores, restaurants, beauty salons…everyone received their hug from Helperman.

Con un promedio de 50 abrazos por hora, Helperman celebró ayer lunes 30 de junio el día del abrazo en las calles de Santiago.

Comenzó en la comuna de Providencia y caminó durante horas saludando con abrazos a quien se topara en su camino. Pero no fue sólo en las calles, también abrazó a gente en locales, restaurantes, peluquerías… todos recibieron el abrazo de Helperman.

Helperman woke the morning of June 19 with a strange pain. His jaw wouldn’t move properly, and the sharp pain was debilitating.

Our superhero flew to the nearest Emergency Room in an attempt to cure his problem and, for the first time in a long time, stopped helping in order to be helped.

Un extraño mal aquejó a Helperman cuando despertó la mañana del jueves 19 de junio. No podía mover su mandíbula y un dolor infernal lo inmovilizó.

Nuestro superhéroe debió partir de urgencia al hospital más cercano para que curaran su dolencia y, por primera vez en mucho tiempo, dejó de ayudar para ser ayudado.

Following his first visit to the children’s home El Arca on June 7th with the motorcycle club “Los Califas,” Helperman returned with gifts to surprise the children.

Helperman wanted to keep his promise of bringing the photos that they’d taken during his previous visit to the at-risk children who live at El Arca, located in the Macul neighborhood of Santiago. Their group photo is now in the director’s office, while Jeremy, David and Carlitos happily recieved the photos that Helperman had for them.

Tras su primera visita al hogar de niños El Arca el pasado sábado 7 de junio junto al club de motoqueros “Los Califas”, Helperman volvió sin previo aviso y con algunas sorpresas y regalos para los niños.

Helperman quería cumplir su promesa y llegó hasta el hogar de niños en riesgo social ubicado en Macul para entregarle las fotos que se habían tomado durante su primera visita. La foto del todo el grupo quedó en la oficina del director, mientras que Jeremy, David y Carlitos recibieron sonrientes las que Helperman llevaba para ellos…

A “strange superhero”

In his debut in the Chilean press, which coincides with the completion of his first month in the streets, Helperman appears today in the Economy section of the newspaper Las Últimas Noticias.

There he is, our beloved superhero strolling happily, alongside an ad for dog food, in a photo taken a few weeks ago while he helped people in Balmaceda Park in Santiago.

The article describes him as a “strange superhero” and makes mention of his - slightly scruffy - boots, but Helperman reveals that he has already changed the boots and that soon they’ll be listed for sale, with the proceeds to be donated to charity. He’s not too worried about being labeled “strange” and assures us it’s not because of his mission to help but rather because of the recently replaced boots…

Un “extraño superhéroe”

En su primera aparición en un medio escrito chileno, y justo cuando cumple un mes en las calles, Helperman amaneció hoy en la sección de Economía del diario Las Últimas Noticias.

En la página 18, al lado izquierdo de la “croqueta rellena” para perros de Líder, aparece Helperman caminando alegre y radiante en una foto tomada hace unas semanas cuando ayudaba a la gente en el Parque Balmaceda.

Calificado como un “extraño superhéroe” y aludido por sus botas, Helperman señala que “ya las cambió y que pronto estarán a la venta para donar los fondos a alguna buena causa”. No le preocupa que lo llamen “extraño” porque asegura que no es por su misión, sino por las botas que ya no usa…
